Help with a guy I like?

I was in a similar situation as you were. What I would do is become his friend first. Talk on the phone. Meet somewhere other than your church. Go out with each other with a group of friends first, and if you guys feel comfortable enough, go out alone as friends. I believe friendship is a great start for these kind of relationships. Once that is developed, you can more comfortably tell him how you feel about him without him acting awkward about it.
