Can i put lubricant lotion on my tampon to help put it in?

can i put lubricant lotion on my tampon to help put it in? bc if i dont put anything on it it wont go in. but i dont want to get those weird lotions and gels because if i put those in my purse and someone sees them i dont want ppl to think im a freakkkkkk.
